PASTOR WAYNE WRITES:
October 24, 2026
Dear HBC Family and Friends,
In Christian theology, the ancient promise made by Almighty God to Abram—long before he was renamed Abraham—finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ. As the Apostle Paul explains in Galatians 3:16, the covenant blessings were not inherited by multiple “seeds,” but by one singular Seed, which is Christ. Because of this profound connection, the old covenant is entirely fulfilled through Him.
Today, anyone who belongs to Christ is considered Abraham’s spiritual seed, making all believers true children of God and heirs to His eternal promises.
But what does this ancient inheritance actually mean for our daily lives? The promises given to Abraham are not passive historical footnotes; they are active, transformative realities that we are called to embody. By understanding the multi-faceted nature of this promise, we can find practical, powerful ways to bring God’s blessing to the world today

WATCHMEN’S REPORT
October 24, 2026
Wayne J. Edwards, Pastor
My Fellow Watchmen,
The last page of this edition of the Watchmen’s Report features a pictorial quote from David Ruybalid, Pastor of Life Church in Peoria, IL. According to his webpage, David began as a musician and worship leader in multiple church contexts. In 2018, after finishing his theological studies through the Anglican Church in North America, he says God called him to walk more deeply with Him and to serve as a pastor. Perhaps that journey shaped this discernment from Pastor Ruybalid:
“Somewhere along the way,
the American Evangelical Church stopped raising shepherds
and started platforming CEOs.
When power, branding, and control replace humility, service, and Christlikeness,
it is no longer leadership,
its idolatry.”
Beloved, over the last 50 years, under the banner of “church growth,” American churches have increasingly abandoned the theological foundations and the essential doctrines of the Christian faith. They have become obsessed with pragmatic, market-driven ministries and leader-driven results, so numerical success now matters more than spiritually nurturing God’s people. When I hear those in pastoral positions use non-biblical terms such as “Lead Pastor,” I can see how the corporate-world terminology has replaced the servant leadership of God-called pastors.
Adoniram Judson was America’s first notable foreign Protestant Christian missionary. He preached for six years in Burma (now Myanmar) without a single convert. From 1813 to 1819, Judson studied the local language, translated Scripture into the people’s language, and endeared himself to those who needed to see the gospel as well as hear it. By the time he died in 1850, his decades of persistence had helped establish dozens of churches and thousands of believers in the region. His complete translation of the Bible into Burmese is still used today, showing the long fruit of patient ministry.
God has called pastors to “Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.” (1 Peter 5:2-4)
Perhaps Andy Stanley’s resignation may remind those who modeled their ministry after his that caring for God’s people matters more than institutional success.
