Am I my Keeper’s Brother?

MAYDAY FOR A DYING WORLD

My dad, John Francis Wall, served as a RAAF Flight Sergeant and Radio Operator during WWII and was stationed at Foulsham, England, in 1945. He flew in the big Halifax bombers during flight operations over Germany.

Whenever a WWII aircraft was in serious trouble, the wireless operator would transmit a desperate MAYDAY call over the radio seeking urgent help.

The Pilot Training Manual for another British aircraft, the P-51 Mustang gives their emergency procedure.

1. Notify wingmen that your airplane is in trouble.
2. Turn the emergency switch ON.
3. Transmit “Mayday” three times, followed by your call sign three times.

As you read the emergency instructions given to those WWII pilots and then look at the condition of our world today, it becomes clear that the nations of the earth are in deep distress and descending rapidly into confusion, chaos, and crisis.

Today MAYDAY calls are being sent out right around the world!

• Nations are sounding the alarm over rising debts that they cannot repay.
• Nations are sounding the alarm over thefts, violence and mayhem that they cannot control.
• Nations are sounding the alarm over corruption in governments and big business that they cannot stop.
• Nations are sounding the alarm over job and housing scarcity that they cannot fix.
• Nations are sounding the alarm over wars that they cannot end.

If there is ever a generation that should be crying out; Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! It is the generation of today.

This whole world is damaged by sin and like a maimed Mustang in WWII the nations are descending towards disaster!
The compass of morality is broken.
The solid engines of truth are battered.
The wings of freedom are crippled.
The pilots of the parliaments lack direction.
The haze of heartbreak clouds the horizon.The fires of faith are flickering.The storms of deception are closing in.The alarms off judgement are sounding.
But there is hope! Mustang Pilots had a Wingman!

When a WWII Mustang Pilot was in trouble, according to the flight manual the first thing he was to do was to notify his wingman.

A GOOD WINGMAN’S TASK

• Stay close to the crippled aircraft.
• Protect the vulnerable pilot from enemy attack.
• Help guide the pilot toward safety.
• Call for further rescue assistance.
• Escort the damaged plane home or to a safe landing area.

Many pilots survived because a faithful wingman stayed beside them in their crisis, some wingmen even giving their lives for the protection of their brothers in combat.

OUR FAITHFUL WINGMAN

All of us have been damaged by sin and left to ourselves we face a sure and certain death. Thank God that the Lord Jesus Christ is the faithful wingman who is willing to come alongside those that would call upon him.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Jesus Christ came down from Heaven into this sin-cursed world to rescue those who are spiralling toward eternal destruction.

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).

THE WINGMAN’S WORK

Stays beside us in trouble: The Lord never abandons His people.

“…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5)

Shields us from destruction: The Lord protects His people.

“He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust…” (Psalm 91:4)

Steers us the right way: The Lord gives us His directions.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Summons rescue assistance: The Lord Himself prays for us.

“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrew 7:25).

Shepherds us back to base: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:2-3).

Sacrifices His life for us: The Lord Himself died so that all who believe in Him can have life eternal.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

Wars will one day cease with the Prince of Peace!

One day every war will cease, and for those who have suffered devastating crashes in life, the Heavenly Wingman is also the Great Physician. He restores the broken, strengthens the wounded, lifts the fallen and guarantees the flight of his children safely to their Heavenly home.

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

Vince Wall was born in Sydney, Australia, into a Roman Catholic family. After leaving school, he worked in the building industry before moving into landscaping and excavation work. His life was transformed when an older lady shared a Gospel tract with him, leading him to faith in Jesus Christ.

In 1995, Vince began pastoring a Baptist church in Sydney. Over the years, Vince has pastored four churches across New South Wales and now serves as an itinerant evangelist and trains churches and individuals in evangelism on the street and at festivals.
