WHY DON’T WE LISTEN?
Some thinking person dropped a list of thoughts as to why people won’t listen to each other into my compound over the weekend. The list was compiled by someone called Hugh Mackay. I thought it was worth letting you know, not that I am implying my readers are bad listeners, but to assist them to understand me better!
People tend not to listen for the following reasons:
- Because they know we don’t listen to them.
- Because it is not relevant to their situation.
- Because we are attacking their basic beliefs.
- Because we talked about us and not them.
- Because they don’t trust us.
- Because we just said what we thought and no more.
People tend to listen:
- When they sense we are in touch with our own feelings.
- When they know we will always listen to them.
- When what we say is relevant to their situation.
- When all the messages we say are consistent with each other.
- When it is clear we have taken their feelings into account.
- When they have learned to trust us.
I shall try and lift my game forthwith.

Hey Chugley… I understand that some people have been having some trouble leaving comments on your very insightful posts.
When I initially tried to leave a post earlier today I received a messing saying I was a ‘suspected bot’…how rude!!
Anyway, I did a bit of research and found that a WordPress plugin is the culprit. After a bit of experimentation I found that the ‘Bluehost’ plugin has been installed by WordPress and this was the cause of the problem. I have now removed that plugin and all seems well.
Happy gibbering Chugley
Thanks, we just seem to have the Gremlin Grumpy persisting in annoying correspondent Paul….Will try and evict him! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
Thank you Chugley. It’s always a good thing to be challenged yo lift ones game when it comes to listening to others. We all want to be validated when in a conversation with our other prime mates. It’s so important to be heard. Thanks Chugley.
Can I add another reason or two why we fail at times to listen well. Feeling overwhelm & being fatigue. I guess if one ate more bananas, a good source of brain food, there would be more hope of being heard.
Thanks Chugley for keeping me attentive.
Shalom
Martin
