WHAT’S UP DOC?
Forgive me, but as an earnest evolving (I hope) Chimp I am, baffled. I have studied the knotty question of “asylum seekers”, and several points greatly trouble me.
1. These people are indeed “seekers” who undertook to enter Australia illegally. For their trouble they have been placed in custody on Nauru Island, (and Manus) at no personal cost, awaiting assessment for acceptance as citizens of Australia.
2. Some have mislaid their personal identity papers, which is not your fault: this was their decision, for no clear reason. It does seem a bit fishy?
3. They were almost all able to apply, in a normal and legal way, for citizenship of your country, before dealing with an illegal “people smuggler” to organise a perilous and dubious trip.
4. You have supplied free medical facilities and accommodation for these uninvited “guests”, who often abuse your generosity, and often loudly complain.
5. Tony Abbott described Nauru, which he visited in October 2018, as “quite a pleasant place”, certainly not the hell-hole the virtue signallers would have you believe. This is also, in this monkey’s opinion, an unfair sleight on 13,649 God fearing inhabitants of the island nation of Nauru. (Two thirds are Protestant, the remainder Catholic, living in comparative harmony, selling phosphate and some coconuts). The island also enjoys better medical facilities than many Australian country towns.
In your wisdom (?) you have allowed the opinion of two medical doctors to override the immigration policy system of your country, over and above professionally paid specialist civil servants and politicians. Moreover, there are no rigorous checks required concerning the political convictions of these un-elected doctors deciding who to let in. (Some could be very biased). The politicians and civil servants have only 72 hours to assess these “seekers” as not being security risks, before they are allowed into your country. Imagine, as David Speers pointed out, if 50 people applied at the same time, 72 hours is not a long enough time to carry out a thorough check on them all, especially if some have no papers! I am all for compassion, as you are, but this is just plain naive. I have just heard Scott Morrison is re-opening Christmas Island as a detention centre, because he expects “refugee” boats to resume soon.
I’m glad the zoo has better management, or I don’t know who I’d be forced to live with. Our inmates are thoroughly vet checked, and ancestor checked.
Gibber! Gibber!

Good day Chugley. A well thought out ‘expose’ on the subject matter. I wonder, if there was a knock on the front door of said “medical doctors” homes, and they found someone they had never seen before asking to come in and live, would they let them in without first having a clear mind of who they were and why they were asking. And I have noticed on many occasions, when these refugees, arrive on our shores, they seem to have lost everything but their mobile phones ??? My passport or identity papers are more valuable to me than a phone. Makes you wonder !
Yes, as I said very fishy, not to put too fine a point on it! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
Hi Chugley, I see you are never afraid to bite the pointy end of the political banana!
I think it wasa your author and wit Oscar Wilde, who said “when people agree with me I always think I’m wrong!” However I’m not Oscar, just a Chimp. Thanks for your agreement! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
What a great compliment oh learned one! Thanks! Chugley
I agree wholeheartedly with very point you’ve made, Chugley.
My fear is that activist doctors will now be allowed to usurp what had been (and still should be!) the prerogative of our elected Minister to protect our national security….and yet us taxpayers will be coughing-up the money for flights and medical attention in Oz for the flood of “sick” illegal refugees that will be flown to the mainland and provided hospital care. Once they’re “better”, will these illegal refugees be flown back? There’s a plethora of appeals avenues they can exploit to stay in Oz indefinitely. Not good!
