Dear HBC Family and Friends,
The Scripture tells us God will not settle for religious games or superficial worship. Amos said God measured His people’s moral and spiritual behavior against the standard of His Holy Word, and they failed.
The people had exceeded God’s legal limit of sin—three transgressions—with the fourth and final transgression being their corrupt worship of God. They had merged pagan worship with the worship of the one true God, and God had no choice but to call them into account.
The image Amos presents here is clear: the end is coming for Israel, and it is coming quickly. God will not pass by them again or respond again. As a result, the songs in Israel’s places of power and worship will not be as happy as they should be. Instead, they will be songs of lamentation and mourning. The dead will be many, and silence will remain. The end has come.
The title of this sermon is “Visions That Demand Response.” Please read Amos 7:1-8:4 in preparation for this study.

My Fellow Watchmen,

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. The festival of Rosh Hashanah 5787 began at sundown on the eve of September 11 and ends after nightfall on September 13. This event includes the Feast of Trumpets, which points to the Rapture, the day the trumpet sounds and the Bride is caught up to meet Him in the air. In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, the Apostle Paul wrote, “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”
So, we ask the question every watchman asks this time of year. Will the Feast of Trumpets be fulfilled this year, or will He tarry a little longer? In Matthew 24:36, Jesus said, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” But we know this: He is coming, and He is coming for those who are looking and watching.
Whether the trumpet sounds this year or Jesus Christ tarries, the most important question is this: Have you made Jesus Lord and Savior of your life? Do not wait. Today is the day.
“Lord Jesus, I come to You just as I am. I confess that I am a sinner and I need You. I repent of my sins and turn to You. I believe You died on the cross for me and that God raised You from the dead. Come into my heart, Jesus. Be my Lord and my Savior. Wash me clean, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and make me ready for the day You come for me. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen. “
Jesus is coming for those who are looking and watching for His return. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! (Revelation 22:20)
