THORNY QUESTIONS???

Thorny Question No One: HOW OLD IS THE EARTH?

Answers vary, so it would seem from my studies, from approximately 6,000 years to 14 billion – approximately!

Humans, it would appear, prefer an:

  •  Almost Infinite Length of Time with a Limited Deity (Or No Deity At All)

To A

  •  Finite (Biblical)  Length of Time with an All-Powerful, All-Wise, All-Good, Thrice Holy Deity Who Dared To Give Free     Will To Man.

They argue this question because they like to decide what is truth for themselves without reference to The Sublime Authority.

Why heed The Creator’s Account?

Even The Honoured Church Fathers seemed to ignore The Mighty God’s Written Narrative of The Origins of The Heavens and The Earth (Genesis 1:1 – 2: 4a) in favour of their own philosophical leanings. The courageous Martin Luther (1483-1546) countered this humanistic tendency:

“The Days of Creation were ordinary days in length. We must understand that these days were actual days (‘veros dies’), contrary to the opinion of the Holy Fathers. Whenever we observe that the opinions of the Fathers disagree with Scripture, we reverently bear with them and acknowledge them to be our elders. Nevertheless, we do not depart from the authority of Scripture for their sake.”

P.S. The modern equivalent of The Church Fathers would seem to be the Scientists who prefer their own explanations of the origins of the Heavens and the Earth to The One Who Is The Origin of All.

  1. I like the phrase above – “Who Dared To Give Free Will To Man”…only perfect love could allow such freedom. The Creator took a great risk doing that, and made His love vulnerable to rejection and grief. But how good for those of us who love being with the loving Creator, and are able to because of what the Son did for us…out of love! Freedom to become what the Creator intended from the “very good” Beginning! Good news!

  2. Well if one decides that his own belief is the truth it really goes to endorse that current saying “If you believe it; then it is truth”

    Mankind is so full of itself that it must reject God’s truth for its own self-puffery.

    If God takes up – chapters, yes chapters, in His book to explain the origin of the universe, the world and mankind there must be something in it – like a real message!
