PASTOR WAYNE WRITES:
October 17, 2026
Dear HBC Family and Friends,
Protoevangelium is a Latin term meaning “first gospel” or “first good news,” referring to Genesis 3:15, where God told Satan, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
God spoke these words directly to the serpent (Satan) in the Garden of Eden right after Adam and Eve sinned, bringing the Fall, shame, and death into the world. He declared a permanent, ongoing struggle between the “seed of the serpent” (evil and demonic forces) and the “seed of the woman” (mankind/the coming Savior). While the serpent would continue to strike the “heel” of the woman’s offspring, concluding with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the offspring (Jesus) would eventually crush the “head” of the serpent—symbolizing a fatal, decisive blow that destroys the power of sin, Satan, and death.
The core of the Christian faith is that Jesus, born of a woman without a human father, was the Seed of Eve, and conquered Satan through His death and resurrection and resurrection from the grave. Therefore, when we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, it is imperative that we make sure our faith is in the historical Jesus—the Seed of Eve, and not the postmodern Jesus who is a savior made in the image of man.

THE WATCHMEN’S REPORT
October 17, 2026
My Fellow Watchmen,
While millions celebrate October 31st as a harmless night of fun, an increasing number of Christians will choose not to participate in Halloween. They do so not to squelch what most people view as a fun night, but to, as David Green, Owner of Hobby Lobby said, align their actions with biblical teaching and avoid glorifying darkness and evil.
Modern Halloween celebrations heavily feature themes of witchcraft, ghosts, vampires, and terror.
- Deuteronomy 18:10–13 issues a strict warning to the ancient Israelites to avoid mediums, sorcery, witchcraft, and the conjuring of spirits. Although modern trick-or-treating may seem far removed from ancient rituals, many Christians believe that playing with occult imagery or themes—even casually—violates the spirit of these biblical boundaries.
- Ephesians 5:8–11 and Romans 13:12 instruct Christians to “cast off the works of darkness” and instead “walk as children of light.” Dressing up as demons, witches, or figures of death trivializes actual spiritual warfare.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:22 instructs Christians to “abstain from all appearance of evil.” For that reason, mimicking a holiday associated with ghosts, ghouls, and horror compromises Christian holiness.
- Romans 14 and 1 Corinthians 10:31 teach us that participating in a Halloween festival, or the “alternatives,” might be a stumbling block to those who have not received Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. What does light have to do with darkness? Christians should choose what honors Christ and clearly set themselves apart from it.
