TAMPERING WITH NATURAL IGNORANCE
Lady Bracknell famously stated in Oscar Wilde’s play “The Importance of Being Earnest” the following.
“I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone.
The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square”.
Katharine Birbalsingh is turning the British Education establishment on its head. I wonder what Lady Bracknell would make of this firebrand?
Thank you to “Outsiders” yesterday for bringing Katherine to my attention.

Hear, hear Katharine! This retired school teacher (me) concurred with everything she said!
The curriculum has certainly been “dumbed down” to ensure more students achieve “success”. I remember in the 1980’s when Year 6 maths was quite rigorous…requiring numeric knowledge (usually taught through drill) and processes…in short, substantial numeric skills. Fast forward 30 years and there is nowhere near the numeric knowledge and rigour required. That curriculum softness can be applied to most subject areas now; and not only weakening of the curriculum, but also school discipline has generally been softened to reflect the “softness” in the moral decline of our western culture. Sad…our kids are the losers in the long run!
Yes, I thought she said what all us Chimps have known since we were born, we all need discipline. The Zoo runs because it is run by people who are disciplined to buy my bananas on time, clean out my compound and all around to keep the show on the road. Also there is no transgender nonsense in here. Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
