SPEAKING UP
Algy has been sharing some more about his schooldays. He likes confiding in me, I am like the son he never had. This heading picture shows the pulpit in the school Chapel. This was an English Public School dating back to 1584 exhibiting imposing architecture and staff. Algy was incarcerated there as a boarder from the age of twelve, after he graduated from his boarding prep school, where he was from the age of seven.
Bible reading was enforced at the prep school, but at the public school a more lenient attitude was taken, with more emphasis on sports. However “Chapel” took place every day, presided over by The Reverend Ifor Jones and an assistant. Reverend Ifor Jones was a fiery Welshman who impressed Algy with his enthusiasm and sincerity.
But it was not until thirty years after listening to his impassioned sermons that the message got through. “What message?” I hear you ask. Well the good Reverend would pound the pulpit and we recorded his spittle reaching the eighth row of the Chapel where all 600 of the boys sat bolt upright. “You dreadful boys” the Reverend would boom out in his flowing white robes “You revolting little sinners, if you remember nothing else, remember Jesus Rose from the Dead”. Then he’d put the days copy of the times under his arm and stomp off down the pulpit stairs.
Thirty years later, Algy tells me, while down on his luck, the truth of these words struck home and Algy saw the light! His parents had not altogether wasted their money on his education.

Some times the Good News comes wrapped up in bad news. It would be far more beneficial if delivered in a far more loving manner.
Could be, but it did the trck in the end! Gibber Gibber! Chugley
Maybe, but at least they won the war! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
How good that the tough times Algy was going through was the catalyst for him to be reflective on life and its meaning….and that seed of truth that had been lying latent all those years was resurrected…and Algy experienced “the Light of the world”!
I’ll drink to that Paul! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
