PASTOR WAYNE WRITES
August 21, 2026
Dear Heritage Bible Church Family and Friends,
As we move into the 4th chapter of our study of the Book of Amos, the prophet’s words become much sharper and more threatening. Yet these were not Amos’ words; they were God’s words spoken through Amos, warning the wealthy and upper class of ancient Israel about living in luxury and practicing empty religious activities while neglecting the poor. God said He had tried to warn them through famines, droughts, crop failures, and plagues, but, “Yet, you have not returned to Me.” Therefore, “Prepare to meet your God!”
God is shaking the nations today as never before, but sadly, even the majority of those who claim to be Christians do not recognize these events as the hand of God, precursors of the judgment to come for those who refuse to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. The “natural” disasters we have recently seen are warning us that, as a nation and as a church, God is aware of our sins and that we are drifting from Him. The call is to repent and return to Him now, or prepare to meet Him in judgment.
The title of this sermon is, “Return to Me: Prepare To Meet Thy God.”

THE WATCHMEN’S REPORT
August 22, 2026
My Fellow Watchmen,
Beloved, I’m still bewildered by the report from Lifeway Research and the Barna Group: 60% to 70% of youth from conservative Christian homes who attend a theologically conservative church will stop attending church between ages 18 and 22, and only about 20% of those will return in their 30s and 40s.
The Bible is very clear: it is the parents’ responsibility to lead their children to the Lord and disciple them until they can stand alone in their faith in Jesus Christ. In that regard, parents must not assume that the age-group ministries within their local church are teaching their children the essential doctrines of the Christian faith, for that is not always the case, whether in today’s mainline denominations, which have departed from historic Christian doctrines, or the non-denominational churches that have departed from the authority of Scripture regarding today’s cultural issues.
Regardless of your local church’s denominational affiliation, before you trust your children and youth with a pastor or age-group leader, ask directly what they will teach about marriage, gender, and biblical authority. Is the marriage covenant limited to a man and a woman? Has God created every human being, male or female, according to His sovereign will? Also ask whether they believe the Bible is the final authority over every issue of our faith, or whether the Scriptures are to be continually revised to conform to current cultural views.
The “new gospel” being proclaimed from many pulpits, and the “new Christian faith” being taught in many classrooms, from the children’s ministries to the seminaries, is that God affirms every person, just as they are, or want to be, and that is just not true. The very reason God sent His Son to pay the wages for our sin, which is rebellion against Him, was that we would not “perish,” in the vain search for self-actualization, but that we might see that our submission unto His Lordship was the only way to achieve meaning and purpose out of this life, and the only hope of everlasting life.
Beloved, when the lie of God’s unconditional affirmation replaces His redemptive call of transformation, the “truth of God’s Word has been exchanged for a lie.” What good is it to reach out to those who are lost if our gospel message leaves them lost? Certainly, we agree that God did not send His Son into this world to confirm our sinful lives, but to confront them; to convict us of our sins, our need for a Savior, and to convince us that Jesus Christ was, and is, the Savior we need. Jesus came to redeem us from our sins, and true redemption results in change.
Please forward these news stories and articles to those you want to spend eternity with. Then ask them to consider what they believe, whom they will follow, and what they will trust, and urge them to respond while they still can.
