Welcome back to Dr Don Batten with a simple to grasp explanation for why the “Big Bang” theory does not pass scrutiny. This monkey is distressed to see how easily humans accept the lie of Evolution. Praise God for highly qualifed and gifted scientists belonging to Creation Ministries, like Dr Batten, who can proclaim the truth with great clarity. Physics failure for big bang

By Dr Don Batten

Published 09 Oct, 2026

An apparent problem in standard particle theory might have overcome a major problem for big bang belief. Recent measurements destroy this hope.

According to the big bang idea for the origin of the universe, ‘nothing’ produced energy, which then produced matter (the particles making up the stuff we are all familiar with) and antimatter (made up of corresponding particles with opposite charges, such as antiprotons and anti-electrons). When matter and antimatter particles meet, they destroy each other, releasing energy.

In theory, matter and antimatter should have been produced in equal amounts. However, since these annihilate one another, there ‘must’ have been a lot more matter produced compared to antimatter so that we now have a visible universe of almost all normal matter.

The big bang also needs lots of mysterious stuff called ‘dark matter’1 to make it work. This is an invisible substance of unknown constituents with strange properties, hypothesized to exist in vast quantities. Dark matter provides the missing attraction (gravity) to pull together the hydrogen made in the big bang to create the first stars. It must have just the right amount and distribution.

That’s how science progresses, by disproving things.2

Scientists have a good understanding of the fundamental particles and forces that make up matter, as described by the ‘Standard Model’ of particle physics.

Physicists have carried out many experiments to try to disprove this model—that’s how science progresses, by disproving things.2

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was built to do such tests. It has a circumference of 27 km (17 miles) and comprises about 10,000 superconducting electromagnets. When cooled to extremely low temperatures, these allow electricity to flow without resistance, creating very powerful magnetic fields. The magnets keep the particles on the right path and focus as they are accelerated to speeds close to that of light. Then they are smashed together, with huge energy. The energy breaks the particles apart into the sub-particles that give them their properties. These sub-particles appear very briefly and (hopefully) can be detected.

In 2022, great excitement arose from a test that suggested that one of these sub-particles, the W boson, had a slightly different mass to that predicted by the Standard Model.

Why the excitement? Well, if the Standard Model is lacking, then there is perhaps room for an asymmetry in the big bang that might explain why there could have been much more matter produced than antimatter. And ‘new physics’ might shed light on ‘dark matter’.

However, a late-2024 report in Nature3 describes an ultra-precise measurement (by CERN, the European Council for Nuclear Research) of the W boson’s mass that affirms once more the predictions of the Standard Model.4

Despite this, though, the authors still said:

Although the model [the Standard Model] is incredibly successful, physicists know it cannot be complete, because it doesn’t account for mysterious phenomena such as dark matter.

So, it looks like the Standard Model remains ‘standard’ and the problems remain for the big bang and its associated ideas.

Note this amazing circular reasoning. Dark matter has failed every attempt to find it, despite ultra-sensitive detectors. In contrast, the Standard Model of the atom has passed every test thrown at it. Yet, the Standard Model must be wrong because it does not explain dark matter? Shouldn’t dark matter be the thing under question?

This is the fifth measurement of the W boson mass that aligns with Standard Model predictions, and it is more precise than ever (0.01% precision). This leaves the 2022 result as an outlier (an anomaly). So, it looks like the Standard Model remains ‘standard’ and the problems remain for the big bang and its associated ideas. In particular, the antimatter-matter imbalance, and having the first stars form while dark matter remains elusive.
