So the new Minister for Indigenous Australians, Ken Wyatt, wants an increased Aboriginal voice in your parliament and a sort of “treaty”. Surely you are meant to be one just, righteous, united nation – not a divided land of warring tribes.

The original indigenous inhabitants had been cut off from civilisation for some thousands of years, after the dispersion at Babel drove them to Australia in the days when there were land and ice bridges soon after Noah’s flood. Since arriving in Australia, these nomadic Aborigines wandered in the land divided into – often warring – tribes scantily clad, eating kangaroos and just subsisting. They did not even have a wheelbarrow.

In roughly the same period, with constant invasions from the Romans, the Saxons, the Vikings, and the Normans and national belief in Jesus Christ as The Saviour of the World, the British progressed from wearing war paint and loin cloths, to an advanced and civilsed society under a rule of law, not superstition, and conquered much of the world.

When Captain Arthur Phillip arrived in Botany Bay, only just in front of the French, he was confronted by – what he perceived to be – human beings of Stone-Age appearance with no apparent technical accomplishment.

The English, on the whole, were sympathetic to the Aborigines, who, generally, have appropriated the benefits of Western Civilization . Surely better to have running water, advanced medical knowledge, flushing toilets, electricity, motor cars, aeroplanes, satellites, mobile telephones and computers than a life of harsh subsistence!

Why would anybody want to cause division in this beautiful land which attracts the peoples of the world and provides opportunity for all because of its Judaeo-Christian foundations. We are one nation. Each citizen has a precious privilege – his/her vote. We are equal under the law. We are Australian.
