LICENSED TO DIE?
My readers were no doubt saddened to hear of the death of Sean Connery recently at the age of ninety. Sean originated from Edinburgh, Scotland, where he was a house painter. Then he was chosen to play the part of James Bond, the secret agent, 007, created by Ian Fleming and licensed to kill. He became the standard by which all secret agents are judged, and a super star, in this fleeting world.
Sean was many men’s fantasy hero, including my keeper Algy’s, but in the end, the apparently bullet proof super agent, succumbed to the curse brought into the world by Adam and Eve, as explained in the Book of Genesis, and repeated in the book of Romans. Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned….”.
The fantasy world created by men fades away, only the Almighty Jehovah remains to decide how the world operates, He remains: “The same today, yesterday and tomorrow”. Hebrews 13:8.
Remember this truth as you observe the Western world choose their new leader in the next few days.

Dear Chugley. I think all us red blooded men (and Chimps) felt we had a bit of James Bond in us. But, in the end, he was just a man. Of the 25 film titles, 9 referred to death or living, and in the end death catches up to all the living. The reference you make to bible passages, is something we all need to take note of and act on. Farewell “shaken not stirred”, there will never be another Sean Connery, but there will be a James Bond for a long time.
Great comment! Thanks Milton. I am feeling a bit shaken and stirred myself as I contemplate the horror of a Biden Harris win tomorrow. So your reminder of James’s preferred Martini mix, reminded me of my current state. I shall be keeping the cocktail shaker at the ready, just in case! Cheers! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
As a teenager, I enjoyed reading the exploits of James Bond…not just vanquishing the villains with such clever gadgetry, but his ability to attract the ever-present pretty girls too !
Still, as Milton mentioned, life is temporal. I’m reminded of a couple of noteworthy verses from the eternal Book of Life that highlight the passing nature of this life:-
“As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
When the wind has passed over it, it is no more,
And its place acknowledges it no longer.”
(Psalm 103:15-16)
This next verse reminds me of the importance of our “faith”….that it is precious to God….and it is absolutely contrary to the world’s value placed on celebrity, looks and wealth….even the success of James Bond!
“…while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
(2 Corinthians 4:18)
This is most helpful Paul, even a monkey can grasp the essence of this wisdom! many thanks. Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
