JUMPING GENES? OR JEANS? ABC…
The ABC have very recently promoted the fact that Vampire Bats have a particular sequence of “Jumping Genes” which particularly interests me. Here is an extract from the article about the so-called phenomenon:
Part of the common vampire bat’s ability to live with an extreme diet could be thanks to transposons — stretches of DNA that can multiply and shift around the genome. It’s why they’re dubbed jumping genes. Human DNA is rife with transposons.
I have read that I, Chugley the Thinking Chimp, have been a recipient of such a gene in the opinion of some. I am still researching this hypothesis for my own education and have serious doubts about its accuracy.
I would consider it a great honour if Dr Don Batten PhD, could answer this for me. I last heard that he was photographing carvings of the stegosaurus somewhere in the boondocks overseas. Perhaps he could enlighten my readers with a snap of one of these interesting portraits in stone? As well as addressing this knotty, and possibly, batty question? Dr Don recently sent me an e-mail about the benefits of carbon dioxide for our planet, which my readers found most helpful. DrDon’s comments can be viewed in the PS on my recent post “Keep the Coal Fires Burning”.
I live in hope! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley the Hopeful Chimpanzee
