‘I AM… THE TRUTH’ (John 14:6)
One of the axioms of the post-modern world is that there is no absolute truth. Truth is relative, subjective, personal, ever-changing and, -above all -comfortable.
But for those who appreciate the real world, Truth is:
- misunderstood – even by its most loyal adherents
- sorrowful – unto death
- betrayed by its closest associate
- denied
- scorned
- mocked
- tortured
- scourged
- cruelly crowned
- forsaken
- crucified
- killed
- buried
- sealed in a guarded tomb
- TRIUMPHANT
- ALIVE FOREVER MORE
- JOYOUS
- COMPASSIONATE
- GRACIOUS
- MERCIFUL
- PATIENT
- LOVING-KIND
AND ETERNAL – SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF ‘THE GOD OF TRUTH’ (DEUTERONOMY 32:4)

P.S. Perhaps, the post-modern world should study Jeremiah 9:3
‘They bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me,” saith THE LORD/

Dear Chugley: ‘Truth’. An interesting word, which today seems to have more than one meaning. Sometimes, we are told something as “the truth”, to find it not so. Last night I heard a supposedly truth, “last month was the hottest since records have been kept”. Told as a truth. The hottest where?? And the inference was, that it was the hottest ever. How long have records been kept? Records of where? Yes it was hot, in many places, but I suspect the records were from very carefully chosen countries. We seem to be in a ‘post-truth era’. Newspapers used to be ‘believed as truth’ but no more, we now have ‘fake news’, so one prominent character claims. Yes Chugley, you are on the right track, there is only one truth, and this blog says it all.
My keeper ran a very interesting session yesterday about this subject featuring a Kevin Sorbo produced DVD called “The Twelve Biggest Lies”. You would probably enjoy it. Mrs Chugley was very impressed and helped to publish this post. Just search “The Twelve Biggest Lies by Kevin Sorbo” and you should find it! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
I love the image of “truth” being “light” – revealing what is good, pure, lovely and honorable. From experience over many years, I (and millions of fellow believers) have found that God’s Word is “light” because paying attention to it, and obeying it makes for an orderly, meaningful and purposeful life. Why is that? Because I think the source of all “truth” is love. God, our Father, is the source of love (God is love), and so He wants good for us. And that’s where “relative” truth falls down…because it doesn’t seek the good of others, but is self-oriented….self-referencing. What a wonderful foundation for direction in life is this thing called “truth”!
“They that walked in the darkness have seen a great light” – I think this has happened to me. I am not sure how much further I shall evolve though. Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
