CONSCIOUSNESS, QUO VADIS?
An article appeared into my Inbox today, from Creation.com. ‘Consciousness Is Not an Emergent Property of Matter’.
The atheist would maintain that “emergent properties of matter” are at work in the functioning of the consciousness. (The thought of a materialistic universe where there can be no truly free choices and therefore no rationality is instinctively resisted – even by genuine atheists.)
The writer of this article, Paul Price, argues that “Human Consciousness cannot be reduced to the mere outworking of physical matter in motion”. A Human Being cannot claim to be rational if he did not make “good choices” based on principles of logic.
Perhaps the existence of a Free Will in two creatures – Human Beings and Celestial Beings – is not so absurd after all!

I think humans’ unique capacity for abstract reasoning is witness to being made in the Creator’s “image”. This capacity is so much a critical element of creativity. Our Creator’s “creativity” is evident in the variety, interactivity, life and energy of all He has made…and that we can appreciate the beauty/ aesthetics of His workmanship sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom too! How special it is to be “human” and be able to enjoy our Creator’s handiwork!
That is one of many reasons why I am torn between being part human and fully Chimp, Paul. I rather think I may be a “one off” character, which doesn’t make my research any easier. I tend to agree entirely with your logic here. Gibber! Gibber!
