CANADIANS REBEL AGAINST HIGH POWER PRICES
We are not the only country suffering from the obsessive “Green” mentality. Doug Ford has recently been voted in by a landslide as the next Premier of the Ontario Province, Canada. Not, I hasten to add, because he wore green for St Patrick’s day! (See heading photo above). Some of the chief reasons for his landslide win were:
- Bring back $1 beer (I like this one! Gibber! Gibber!)
- Allow beer, wine, cider and coolers to be sold in corner stores
- Cut the price of gas by 10 cents by stopping the carbon tax, eliminating the cap-and-trade system and reducing the province’s gas tax
- Spend $1.9 billion on mental health and addiction support (probably to offset the results of the $1 Beer?! Gibber! Gibber!)
- Re-open debate on the sex education curriculum
- Cut the cost of hydro by 12 per cent for the average family
- Cut hospital wait times, open new long-term care beds
Using data compiled by Hydro-Québec, the study compares the hydro bill (including taxes) for a typical household using 1,000 kWh per month in selected cities, as of 2016:
- Montreal: $83.08
- Winnipeg: $97.50
- Calgary: $109.19
- Vancouver: $114.38
- Halifax: $166.80
- Ottawa: $182.51
- Toronto, Ontario: $201.23
The study finds the hydro bill for the typical household grew 62 per cent in Toronto from 2010 to 2016, while rising 36 per cent in Vancouver, seven per cent in Montreal and falling slightly in Calgary.
Report Blames Green Energy, Excess Supply
I wonder how long it will be until the same kind of problems, with an Aussie flavour, cause a similar backlash here? (At least I have a fur coat supplied by my maker!)
Gibber! Gibber!
