VOLUNTARILY UNITED
As an ( apparently) evolving Chimp, I find Clive Staples Lewis’ writings most helpful. I liked this one from Mere Christianity:
VOLUNTARILY UNITED
“God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go either wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free, but had no possibility of going wrong; I cannot. If a thing is free to be good, it is also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. A world of automata – of creatures that worked like machines – would hardly be worth creating. The happiness which God designs for His higher creatures, is the happiness of being freely, voluntarily united to Him and to each other in an ecstasy of love and delight, compared with which the most rapturous love between a man and a woman on this earth is mere milk and water. And for that they must be free”.

Yes, a very profound statement this Chimp has found most insightful! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
First this; God created heaven and earth; all you see and all you don’t see. Earth was a …etc etc etc; until God spoke; “Let us make human beings, like robots. They will till the soil, look after the fish and birds, and will do whatever I tell them to do. I will not have to worry about them, I won’t have to make rainbows and I will not have to see my Son die” So here we are, perfect; without love, or sorrow, or any sense of worth or value, no purpose. Hang on….that sounds awful. Thankfully that is not how it happened. God wanted the company of His creation, beings that can relate to Him and who He can relate to. When my mother said, “do your shoe laces up”; I could use the free will God gave me to say “yes Mum” or “no Mum’. When God said “no other gods, only me”, we can choose to say OK or noway! But our free will, our choice to say “yes” to God, or “no”, is the most defining choice we will ever make. Pays to give it some thought. Eternity without Gods company, does not bear thinking about.
…and aren’t we glad God gifted us with free will!!? Jesus changes us to want to do “good”, just like He went about “doing good”. His Word and His Spirit transform us….from within…the best way to be transformed!
Seems good to this monkey! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
