THE UNIVERSE – MIRACLE OR MAGIC OR MIND -BOGGLING?
I have been reading books, articles and this intriguing booklet, as well as watching DVDs on the subject of the universe. It boggles my monkey mind to consider such things as stars, planets, aliens, distances in space and UFOs.
Distances (and therefore the likely travel times) are unimaginably vast. The closest star to our earth is 25 million million miles away. At the same speed that the Apollo moon shots travelled to the moon (which was accomplished in three days), it would take 870,000 years to get there.
Even at one tenth of the speed of light a trip one way would take 43 years. (That seems more acceptable!) To accelerate – just a ten kilogram craft – to this speed, which wouldn’t fit me, would take all the energy produced in four days by the world’s largest hydro-electric power station at Itaipu, run by Brazil and Paraguay.
A collision with even a speck of dust – at this speed – would produce the explosion force equivalent to ten tonnes of TNT.
(This information came from a fascinating booklet, pictured in the heading to this post, written by Dr Don Batten and Gary Bates, available from www. Creation.com for a massive seventy five cents! (Plus postage) You may wish to buy several to share around.)

The sizes and distances involved with our single Milky Way galaxy don’t only boggle your mind, Chugley…they boggle this human’s brain too!
And to think astronomers reckon there are at least one hundred b-b-b-b-billion galaxies in the known Universe!! The stuttering over the “billions” is because of the shock-value in trying to imagine this!! What a Creator!
By the way…our much-needed Sun is a star too!
I’m glad you are boggled too Paul, I am pretty much a mere Chimpanzee, although, seemingly, an evolving one. Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
