PROTEST SONGS
Someone threw an autobiography of singer Joan Baez (1960’s protest singer) into my cage. I liked her back then, and am enjoying her brutally honest book, written in the 1980’s. I did not know that she sang at Martin Luther King’s rallies and knew him quite well. One of the songs was “We shall overcome”. I found myself wondering how much you lot have actually overcome since then. I read yesterday that former Iranian Red Guards leader, Mohsen Rexaei, said that “Iran is just looking for an excuse to attack Israel and raze Tel Aviv to the ground”. Does not sound like a “peace plan” to this monkey.
In the words of another peace song from the sixties song “When will you ever learn….” The heading picture shows Joan today at 79, still singing, hope I look as good at that age.
