Recently someone told me that they understood a belief in recent Creation was a Seventh Day Adventist construct. Don Batten, the head of Creation.com , told me about a man called Ronald Numbers, who happened to be a Seventh Day Adventist. When Numbers was aged twenty he attended a lecture by an evolution believing “scientist” about the Petrified Trees in Yellowstone Park. The park is famous, a quick over-view for you below, thanks to Wikipedia:

Yellowstone National Park is a nearly 3,500-sq.-mile wilderness recreation area atop a volcanic hot spot. Mostly in Wyoming, the park spreads into parts of Montana and Idaho too. Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful. It’s also home to hundreds of animal species, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope.

As a twenty year-old Seventh Day Adventist, Ronald Numbers then believed in the young age of the earth (less than 10,000 years) as outlined in Genesis. He could not reconcile this belief with what the evolution-believing geologist portrayed as “evidence” of 40,000 years of forests preserved in stone, all at different levels and presumed ages. Thus he fell away from his faith and became a crusader for evolution.
