IN FLANDERS FIELDS
My valued regular correspondent, Paul, yesterday sent through the poignant poem “In Flanders Fields the Poppies Blow” by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. The last verse speaks to us all.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Perhaps the present ‘Foe’ is not Prussianism but:
- Humanism
- Evolution
- Radical Islam
- Militant Feminism

…what a wonderful duty to “carry the torch” of what is good, right, true, noble, pure, lovely and praiseworthy… to use the words of the Bible (Philippians 4:8). These virtues simply cannot fail in nation-building and home-building; but they are fragile virtues, and can be easily undermined and sabotaged as you have identified in your comment, Chugley.
Thanks again Paul! Best wishes and a Gibber! Chugley
