HE HAD TEN THOUSAND MEN…..
Who did? I hear you ask! Well it was said to be The Grand Old Duke of York. He marched them up to the top of the hill and marched them down again, for no good reason. Just crazy, like the plan to pump water up a hill using more power than is generated letting it gush down, pretending it will solve our energy problems, by powering a few houses for few days at the cost of 11 billion dollars. The “success” of the scheme also assumes that the rain is heavy enough to supply the “free” water. The Outsiders featured Jennifer Game yesterday, explaining this all in detail. About as crazy as the Bureau of Meteorology “homogenising” temperature records!
Please lift your game you lot, before you ask me to be your partners in lunacy!

My (amateur) understanding of the Snowy 2 project is that it will act like a giant battery, to pump water back up to increase (so they say) the power generation. To quote the Snowy 2 web site:-
“The project will increase the Scheme’s generation capacity by up to 2,000MW, and at full capacity, provide about 175 hours of energy storage – enough to power three million homes for more than a week….Snowy 2.0 will act like a giant battery, pumping water to the upper dam at times of low demand and storing it to generate energy at times of high demand.”
And my amateur monkey understanding is that we are spending 11 Billion dollars for this gimmick when we could build a coal fired power station that works around the clock, and powers more homes, rain or no rain!! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
Hi Chugley. As a young man aspiring to riches, I thought, “If I can master perpetual motion. I will have it made”. As I understand it, it is creating more power than the amount required to make it. There is an old riddle,”what goes up the stairs black and white, and comes down red?” There is a big question mark as to whether Snowy 2 will end up in the black or the red. $11 billion is a big amount of black. An interesting web site; Renew Economy, by Giles Parkinson and Nigel Morris on February 7, 2019, poses some interesting thoughts, especially in regard to what may be available by 2023/4 in the way of energy storage. They say; “This poses an interesting question for the government, who now own Snowy Hydro outright: Does support for Snowy acknowledge the future of renewables, (storage etc) and how does that argument go down in a government so divided it hasn’t a clue what to say about energy, apart from a rhetorical wish for “fair dinkum power”. Maybe the “powers that be”, whoever they will be, should talk to God about electricity, He created all the requirements for it. The free electrons, electrons that are not attached to an atom. etc etc etc. “Please God, give our decision makers your wisdom on this problem, as you know the beginning from the end”. If this goes ahead, our prayer is that will come out black, not red. Answer to the riddle; a newspaper. Your humble reader.
Thanks again for your response, Milton. I like the comparison with your perpetual motion quest! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
