C(K)URDS AND WH(E)Y?
Curds are derived from milk; Kurds are derived from the ancient Medes,
The Medes (/miːdz/, Old Persian Māda-, Ancient Greek: Μῆδοι, Hebrew: מָדַי Madai) were an ancient Iranian people who spoke the Median language and who inhabited an area known as Media between western and northern Iran. They are not Arabs.
Andrew Bolt in his Bolt Report yesterday interviewed a Kurd from Australia’s Kurdish Lobby, Eziz Bawenmend.
This sent me on a Google hunt to help my understanding of the background of this brave nation of over thirty five million people – without a recognized homeland.
I found an excellent film on the history of the Kurdish people which answers certain questions:
- What is the Kurds’ relationship with Turkey, the USA and Australia?
- Who are the PKK?
- Why is ISIS so afraid of being killed by the crack shot women warriors, the Peshmerga?
- What is Israel’s attitude to the Kurds?
- Why is the West more aligned with Turkey than with the Kurds?
- Where does Russia stand on all this?
I include a picture of the glamorous women warriors of the Peshmerga, who are crack shots and are the only women of whom ISIS warriors are afraid.

People forget that the Kurds occupy Christian lands because the Ottomans had the Kurds massacre the Christians, and were promised the lands and property of those they killed. The Kurds are not the poor forgotten people they are portrayed in the media. The Kurds organised into the Hamidiye received assurances that they would not be called to answer before the tribunals for any acts of oppression committed against Christians.
The Ottoman Empire’s widespread persecution of Assyrian civilians during World War I constituted a form of genocide, the present-day term for an attempt to destroy a national, ethnic, or religious group, in whole or in part. Ottoman soldiers and their Kurdish and Persian militia partners subjected hundreds of thousands of Assyrians to a deliberate and systematic campaign of massacre, torture,
abduction, deportation, impoverishment, and cultural and ethnic destruction.

Lots of good questions asked in your post, Chugley. One question I’m specially interested in is the mission of Russia in Syria, now that Russia has become a major player there, along with Turkey. I’m interested to speculate whether Russia might turn her eyes to the massive oil reserves discovered in the Golan Heights. Golan Heights is under Israeli occupation and control, yet the UN regards Syria as the rightful owner of that area. If Russia feels the “rest of the world” (via the UN) is behind her, that oil would be very attractive to such a superpower nation. Would Israel stand by if Russia wanted to seize those oil fields? This may become a question of Biblical proportions!
I think you make a very good point Paul. I think the vast oil reserves in the Golan Heights make it a very attractive target for Russia. Ezekiel 38 and 39 describes a war in the future, perhaps this will be the trigger? Hang onto your hat and make sure you know Jesus Christ personally, seems to be the best bet? Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
