‘CHIMP-AND-TREE’ RIGHTS?
A team of fourteen University of Sydney researchers has come up with a plan for “Multispecies Justice”. This takes tree-hugging to a more sophisticated level and proposes giving animals such as chimpanzees and trees similar rights to humans. (Check out Jessica Cortis’ article in The Australian March 21st, ‘Utter Madness’, featuring the “tree hugger” picture reproduced).

Fortunately Institute of Public Affairs Western Civilisation director Dr d’ Abrera has brought some sense to this debate. She argues: “The same people who want to kill cows to stop climate change now want to give wombats the vote…..This is utter madness….Australian taxpayers need to be made aware that their hard-earned dollars are funding such frivolous and irrelevant research”.
Well, now that human beings are going to insist on equality before the law for animals and plants, should I not submit my application to join The Royal Sydney Golf Club? I won’t have to continue my profession as a Queen’s Counsel. I have won my case. I can retire and work on my golf.
Hooray! Just as my eight-iron shots are improving. (I am having difficulty, however, finding a pair of golf shoes to fit my chimpanzee feet, which are designed more for tree-swinging than golf.)
Gibber! Gibber!

Sydney Uni had the opportunity to host a degree course in “western civilisation”, sponsored by the Ramsay Centre…a conservative group, who plan to fully fund the course via staff salaries and student scholarships. The Uni rejected the proposal when it found out Tony Abbott was one of the Ramsay Centre’s Board members. Here’s the Financial Review’s quote (Feb 12 2019) –
“Academics at Sydney University, which is considering taking the course, objected to it after Ramsay Centre board member and former prime minister Tony Abbott, said the course was “not about Western civilisation, it was for it”.”
So much for the academic goal of having students analyse and discuss all aspects of a topic, including opposing thoughts! Left-wing (even marxist) ideology reigns in too many of our universities! One can only conclude they want to demean the prosperity and success of our western (Christian) culture, and paint it unfairly in a poor light.
A sad comment on the human race – it just re-inforces my decision to stay in my zoo and enjoy an uncomplicated life. Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
