‘BEWITCHED, BOTHERED AND BEWILDERED’…….

 

Some of you may remember the song by Lorenz Hart and Richard Rogers Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered sung by such luminaries as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.

It appears that human beings often think and act in a manner that is so irrational an evolving chimpanzee might well believe that they are ‘bewitched’.

Almost two thousand years ago the Gentile Christians in the Ancient Roman Province of Galatia were acting in such a manner. The Apostle Paul had to castigate them for their folly in believing that they had to be circumcised to be true believers in Jesus Christ: “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?”(Galatians 3:1)

In these modern days it seems most human beings are ‘bewitched’ by something or other. Reason, Truth and Rationality are abandoned for Folly, Lies and Fantasy. One wonders why:

  • Australia is not resigning from the Paris agreement
  • Men cannot be masculine and women cannot be feminine
  • Nations cannot control their borders
  • The Banking System appears corrupted.

  2. Dear Chugley. “Folly, lies and corruption”. Now there’s a headline. Recently, I was in a group which was discussing with dismay, the state of our nation and the world at large. I offered them a volume that described the times in which we live. It has 66 books, the last enlightens us to what is going on. Our Nation, many years ago, told God to ‘get out of our schools, our Parliament and our lives in general’. Since that time, we have seen a spiral of “decay” within our society. Compare Australia of 60 years ago with today. God told us; “ignore me at your peril”. And in the end, He may well say; “I told you so”. Milton, the mandrill. Saved by Grace.
