BEFORE AND AFTER
The new keeper, Algy, has raced cars of all kinds, flown aeroplanes and has liked Kris Kristofferson. He even followed Speedcar dirt track racing, when he first came to Australia.
Here is a heading picture, from his collection, of Johnny Fenton, Australian Speedcar Champion in 1976. He is not sure what happened to Johnny Fenton spiritually, but as this recent clip indicates, “You can’t keep an old racer down”. (Algy has a number of entertaining stories about Johnny Fenton, but as a cautious chimpanzee, I am reluctant to publish them.)
Kris, was the son of a high ranking United States Air Force officer, but to his Father’s dismay, Kris preferred writing and singing Country songs.
This is a rendering of his signature song, “Me and Bobby McGee”, sung at his tribute concert in 2015.
On the other hand this rendering by Kristofferson of “Why Me Lord?” illustrates how profoundly finding the truth of the Gospel affected him.
Algy prays that all may come to experience such a profound revelation of The Ultimate Truth as the famed country singer.
