AVRO VULCAN “V” BOMBER
Today is special training day with Keeper Barry and assistant keeper Paul.
I am an aviation enthusiast and particularly enjoy watching the British Avro Vulcan perform. Here she is in all her glory and trade mark howl flying at Old Warden.

Hello Chugley. Nice shots of the Vulcan. Reminds me a lot of the Auster Aiglet that my brother and I flew around in over central NSW, many years ago. Tho’ the Auster sounded different and armament: only carried two small bags of flower with which we terrorised some local farmers. Those were the days. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcThf0UWEaaGlM9KF3ufzyYOdrbMuWP81KNRnLInHS9NZO-kHL0m&s GIbber! Gibber! Chugley
What it must be like to be in control of something like that.
Thanks Betty. I believe there was a saying amongst pilots ” do the same things as always in the cockpit, and the rest follows you, regardless of size”. Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
Dear Chugley, The Flying Chimpanzee,
Thank you for this glimpse into the sight and sound of the wondrous Vulcan.
(I understand that when it was first tested, the pilot ‘rolled it like a fighter’.)

Yes, that is correct. The test pilot was Roland Beaumont, he was flying solo, and he rolled it like a fighter over Woodford aerodrome Lancashire England, where it was built. He blew all the skylight windows out of the hangar with the shock wave he caused! It was considered good fun, typical of you humans at that time! Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
