ALAN’S LAST SCRUM ON RADIO
Alan Belford Jones, Australia’s popular breakfast radio host is hanging up his boots – at least on radio. He will remain active on Sky TV and in print. Alan has had a remarkably successful career in broadcasting, and also in every other field to which he has turned his hand. His stamina is almost superhuman, his schedule included getting up at 2:30 am every weekday morning, since 1985, to prepare for his 6 a.m. start and 9 a.m. finish, on air. At the age of 79 he has probably made a wise choice to slow up a little! (This monkey wouldn’t dream of rising at such an hour.)
Alan’s varied career included speech writing for Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, being a schoolmaster and running an airline and coaching many sports teams to success – to name but a few of his diverse achievements. He is a graduate of Queensland University, where he gained a Bachelor of Arts degree. A keen sportsman, he won a University Blue for tennis at Worcester College Oxford, whilst studying there. He is also very interested in music, and has even acted in the musical, Annie, as Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
He is most acclaimed as a great and enthusiastic motivator of people in all walks of life.
It must be hard for such a high achiever to remain humble, but Alan has achieved this feat, and is able to relate to all kinds of people, including being the champion for many battlers in “Struggle Street”, as he calls it. He made a point of answering every letter written to him by listeners. Such attention to detail endeared him to many.
Alan Jones would be the first to acknowledge (unlike many other successful men,) that many others have encouraged and inspired him – especially his mother and friends who believed in him always.
It is well for all humans to remember, when considering such a life, the words of Psalm 100 verse 3 :
Know ye that the Lord He is God:
It is He that hath made us – and not we ourselves;
We are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
This monkey believes the expression, ‘The Self-Made Man’ (which some may apply to Alan Jones) to be misleading.
It is wise to acknowledge where all creatures originate – the dust of the earth.
Gibber! Gibber!

When we lived in Sydney, Alan Jones was usually the first outside voice we listened to each weekday morning. I never warmed to the unfair “shock jock” description some still give him. I’ve always felt he genuinely cares about the welfare of our nation, and he often takes on the cases of individuals for whom justice has been denied. And what a mind! He has amazing recall of detail, and is brilliant in his articulation of thoughts.
Personally, I’ll miss his influence greatly as he begins to wind down his remarkable career..
We enjoyed listening to him here in the zoo Paul. He also thinks Global warming is nonsense and a plan to bring in a World Government. Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
Dear Chugley. Well done Alan Jones. I agreed with him a lot of the time, but sometimes our thoughts were opposed. I do acknowledge his standing up for the little guy and on occasions to those who thought were wrong, he sure did “stick it to ’em” . I have said on more than one occasion, that what he is saying must be true or he would have been dragged to court and sued out of existence. Enjoy your sleep-ins Jonsey. And Chugley, thanks for reminding us of Psalm 100 verse 3 :
Glad you enjoyed the post Milton! I wonder if Alan read it? Gibber! Gibber! Chugley
