“THE STAR” OF CHRISTMAS?
I have been working my monkey brain overtime.
Who is this baby wrapped in swaddling clothes in a manger whose birth was heralded to Bethlehem shepherds by angelic choristers?
The zoo ran a movie called The Star a few evenings ago. It is a cartoon-style production narrating the story of Jesus’ birth from the point of view of the various animals involved—an aspiring donkey, a dancing dove, an adventurous sheep, three eccentric camels, two ‘bad’ dogs, a house-proud cow, a flighty filly and others. No chimpanzees sadly!
It would seem that The Star from Heaven is actually this baby JESUS born as a human being: ‘THERE SHALL COME A STAR OUT OF JACOB’ (NUMBERS 24:17).
The mystery is Why?
- Why would a heavenly being want to be born?
- Why do so many human beings celebrate his birth even over two thousand years later?
- Why would he be born into poverty and obscurity?

Hi Chugley. Sorry to hear your ancestors where not represented in that terrific new movie called THE STAR (highly recommended for your family). I guess if Jesus was born in the jungle this would had been a different scene altogether. But Chugley, I got to say you have hit the nail on the head by asking the most incredible question. WHY WHY WHY??! Jesus needs to be our ultimate question to ask as we try to make any sense to this world we live in. It all makes sense now! And fancy that it took a smart Chimp to ask the most important question of all. Well done, Chugley. It’s worth a thorough examination. It’s worth giving one’s utmost time this Christmas Season. Merry Christmas Chugley
Thank you so much Martin for your interest in my jungle jottings. I am glad you agreed with my asking Why? I am still working on discovering whether Jesus died for Chimpanzees, it seems, so far to me, at least, that evolution does not add up. I cannot see our Creator making many different “experimental” beings that were not fully working models. For instance Wombats with their pouches facing forwards, instead of backwards, thus suffocating their babies. If this was so, how did Wombats survive at all? Perhaps if you are what I believe is known as a Primate (something in the Church?) you can answer my query? If you are passing my enclosure during Christmas, do drop in for a banana or two. Gibber! Gibber!
