PASTOR WAYNE WRITES:
December 6, 2024
Dear Heritage Family and Friends,
The commercial Christmas story is filled with fanciful myths, exaggerated legends, various cultural and geographical traditions, and a whole lot of fantasy and fiction.
While I’m not opposed to the seasonal celebrations that draw family and friends together, we need to make sure our children know the difference between a well-meaning legend about a man who brings gifts to those who have been “good” and the biblical truth about God who “so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believed in Him, (even if they have not been good) should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Many people consider the biblical story of a virgin girl giving birth to a son as a legend, for the ancient Mediterranean world was full of such stories of babies who were born of gods. Virgin births are also mentioned in other cultures, including ancient Greece, Hinduism, and Buddhism.
However, when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, more than 300 prophecies began to be fulfilled – 48 related explicitly to the God-promised Messiah.
· Micah 5:2 says, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from old, from ancient times.”
· Isaiah 7:14: A virgin will conceive and give birth to a son named Immanuel, which means “God is with us.”
Last week, we began a new series of sermons entitled The Whole Christmas Story.
The title of this sermon is “The Seed of the Saviour.”

THE WATCHMEN’S REPORT
By Wayne J. Edwards, December 7, 2024
My Fellow Watchmen,
Americans are experiencing what some call “The Fourth Great Awakening.” This positive shift is marked by millions of Christians finally waking up and voting their convictions on November 5, a growing interest in the Christian faith by young adults, and especially young men, and a 23% increase in the purchase of Bibles over last year. This suggests a conservative resurgence that we pray will manifest itself in the growth of the Christian faith, bringing hope and optimism for the future.
Millions of young people are now realizing that “woke ideologies are destructive attempts to re-found America according to a new civic religion which both parodies and persecutes Christianity.” Their intrinsic desire for a civil society based on the Judea-Christian values that served as an anchor for the generations before us now exceeds the Marxist indoctrination they received from the public education system that said socialism is the key to human equality. Young adults are finding it difficult to find employment without agreeing to comply with the government-imposed views on the moral issues of our day, and they do not want to compromise their convictions.
Hopefully, President-elect Trump will be able to keep his promise to “restore the American dream” of personal freedom and unlimited opportunity that once described America. Quite frankly, most Americans around my age thought that dream had been lost forever, that our government had become too corrupt, our educational systems too indoctrinated in cultural Marxism, our churches too spiritually anemic, our society too saturated in evil, and our families too fractured to see a revival of patriotism, much less in the Christian faith. However, God answered our prayers, and while we are very thankful that President-elect Trump was elected and for what he has said he will attempt to do to restore America’s greatness, we must always remember, he is only our President; God is our Heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord.
I urge every family to do in their homes what we expect President Trump to do in Washington – clean out the corruption, i.e., remove any form of media that infects the minds with sin. Re-establish the foundations of the family on the Word of God and faithfulness to the Church. Determine your daily schedule around those spiritual priorities rather than the educational events or extra-curricular activities that prevent family unity. This should include the evening meal at home together, followed by a time of family Bible study and prayer.
Finally, see your family as being “on mission” in your neighborhood, i.e., discovering the spiritual needs of your neighbors and finding ways to meet them. Let your family adopt a family in another country, correspond with them, and pray for them, i.e., teach your children to think of “others” rather than themselves. If true revival is to come, and we must continue to pray for that, it will begin in our house, not in the White House.
Thank you for sharing these selected news reports and opinion articles with those you think might be interested.
