PASTOR WAYNE WRITES:
January 19, 2024
Dear Heritage Family,
According to the latest State of Theology survey, the number of people in today’s evangelical churches who do not believe in the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith is disturbing. Without a “plumbline;” a standard of truth to measure what we are reading, hearing, and seeing, today’s untrained pastors are improvising theology with little regard for the orthodox Christian Faith. As a result, more false doctrines are being taught in the churches, and therefore, fewer “believers” with a biblical worldview, and therefore, no positive change in our culture.
Today, the church’s greatest challenge is to remain doctrinally sound while the Laodicean-type churches drift into apostasy. Contrary to contemporary thought, Christians are not free to modify the fundamentals of the Christian Faith to fit in with the latest cultural trends. That’s what Paul meant when he said he had “kept the faith,” – he didn’t adapt it to make it more acceptable to his hearers.

My Fellow Watchmen,
In describing the various gifts given to the twelve tribes of Israel, according to 1 Chronicles 12:32, “the sons of Issachar had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do.” In Daniel 12:8-10, the young prophet cried out unto God, “My Lord, what shall be the end of these things?” And He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.”
Beloved, if we are to be the watchmen on the wall, not only do we need to understand the times, we need God’s wisdom to advise our people accordingly. The Bible contains several verses related to seeking wisdom. Here are some examples:
· James 1:5 – “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
· Ecclesiastes 7:12 – “For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.”
· Proverbs 1:7 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
· Hebrews 11:6 – “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
