PASTOR WAYNE WRITES:

Dear Heritage Family and Friends,
In our next sermon from Paul’s letter to the Philippians, we are privileged to address the greatest Christological passage in the New Testament regarding the incarnation of Christ. The two main lines are these:
· “Jesus, who being in the form of God,” – this describes Jesus’ pre-incarnate existence. Jesus did not begin His existence in the manger at Bethlehem. Jesus was with God in the beginning as the Son of God.
· “Humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” – A.T. Robertson called the death of the cross “The bottom rung in the ladder from the throne of God. Jesus came all the way down to the most despised death of all, a condemned criminal on the accursed cross.”
Beloved, it is easy to hear this description of Jesus and admire Him from a distance. Ah, but then the challenge… “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” The lower our Lord had to stoop to save us, the higher we who have been saved ought to lift Him up!
The theme of our current sermon series from Paul’s Epistle to the Philippians is “The Epistle of Joy.” The title of this sermon is: “The Humbled and Exalted Christ.”

THE WATCHMEN’S REPORT
By Wayne J. Edwards, March 29, 2025
Encouraging news from the Barna Group’s research: weekly church attendance is on the rise. After a peak of 49% in 2009, weekly church attendance dipped to the upper 20% range. Now, it’s climbing back up to around 32%. This increase, however, is largely due to the rise of ‘megachurches’ with an ‘entertainment-based’ worship style that appeals to youth and young adults.
What should truly uplift every pastor, regardless of the size of their church, is the renewed interest in the Church. The survey revealed a significant shift in perception, with 65% of respondents disagreeing with the notion that the local church is irrelevant in today’s world. This is a powerful validation of the importance of small congregations, as 57% expressed enjoyment in engaging with clergy before, during, or after services, which may not be possible in the mega-churches.
The survey also revealed the desire for a deeper discipleship community, i.e., ways they can strengthen their faith beyond the Sunday morning worship experience, which doesn’t bode well for the mega-churches. With the recent fiasco regarding gender dysphoria, parents are realizing that the Church is the last bastion of truth, as the ideological Left has captured most of the institutions in which their children are involved.
Therefore, as long as the church stays committed to God’s revealed truth in His word, the church offers a counter-narrative to radical ideologies such as LGBT activism and critical race theory.
So, as long as a church preaches the Bible as the divinely inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God, the Holy Spirit will see that those who are seeking the truth will find a church that is preaching the truth.
Let’s rejoice in this!
