PASTOR WAYNE WRITES:
July 25, 2025
Dear Heritage Family and Friends,
In the strict sense, the word “contentment” can only be attributed to God, for God alone is “all-sufficient.” He is fully satisfied with Himself alone and needs nothing apart from Himself. However, God is pleased to communicate His fullness to those who will receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and surrender unto Him as their Lord. As a result, they are, by faith alone, content in Christ alone.
The Apostle Paul reached that point of contentment in his relationship with God. In 2 Corinthians 3:5, Paul said, speaking of himself, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.” Therefore, the secret to Paul’s contentment was to be satisfied with the sovereignty of God, for “though he had nothing, he possessed all things.” When Paul wrote his letter to the Philippians he had “nothing” of the worldly pleasures, but, having surrendered his life to the Lordship of Christ, he “possessed every heavenly blessing. “
The Puritan Jeremiah Burroughs wrote, “Contentment is not in getting what we want, but in wanting what God gives.”
The title of this sermon from Philippians 4:10-23 is: The Epistle of Joy, “Paul’s Secret of Contentment.” This will be part two of the sermon.

THE WATCHMEN’S REPORT
JULY 26, 2025
My Fellow Watchmen,
For the last several weeks, I’ve had this sense that we are living on the edge of eternity future. As a watchman, my assignment is to warn God’s people of what I “see,” not what I “think” or “feel”, but as Bill Gaither said in that wonderful song, “I just feel like something GOOD is about to happen!”
Yes, I’m aware of our crumbling society, the impending threat of WWIII, and the sickening, apathetic attitude of today’s lukewarm churches about all that is going on. However, if we take the time to lift our eyes above the fleeting fancies of this world and fix our eyes on the promises of God’s Word, we can endure what little time is left on this earth and try to envision what our lives will be like in heaven for all eternity.
Beloved, this wicked world is not our final home. As believers, we are already citizens of heaven. Yes, God may allow us to continue to endure the trials and difficulties of this life for some time, but our hope is not based on the cessation of our problems but upon the certainty of heaven. So, like Jesus, who, “for the JOY set before Him,” we endure it all, knowing:
“I just feel like something good is about to happen. I just feel like something good is on its way. God has promised that He’d open all of heaven, and brother, it could happen any day. When God’s people humble themselves and call on Jesus, and they look to heaven, expecting as they pray. I just feel like something good is about to happen, and brother, this could be that very day!”
Let me encourage you to lift your focus from this wicked world and fix your eyes upon Jesus, and then I want you to sense an urgency about some eternal things:
· The assurance of your salvation in Christ alone.
· The peace in knowing that you have settled all of your earthly conflicts.
· The joy in knowing you have shared the gospel with those you love.
