THE EAGLES AND THE VULTURES
Today the Israel war against Hamas in Gaza is apparently on hold, so I present Bud Hancock’s hard hitting article explaining the way in which he views politics. It indicates to this monkey why you humans must place your faith in God, not politics.

Politics – The Eagles and the Vultures
By Bud Hancock
Birds of a Feather
Whether they admit it or not, or whether they even know it or not, every person has his “premises”, those principles, opinions, dogma or tenets upon which he bases the important decisions he makes throughout his life. Premises are usually formed by receiving information from what is hoped would be trusted sources. Since we live in a rapidly changing world, especially the “ugly world of politics” where that nefarious process dominates so much of our lives, one’s premises should be regularly checked to see if they still align with ones’ personal and moral values.
“Birds of a feather flock together” was a saying I had heard all my life and I assumed it only had to do with seeing robins together with robins, bluebirds with bluebirds, etc., but the real meaning has nothing to do with birds but much to do about the fact that people who agree on issues usually stick together, regardless of which side of an issue they openly support, liberal vs conservative, Democrat vs Republican, etc. There will always be a small group of either Democrats or Republicans who will steadfastly ride their party agenda without wavering, and of all politicians, they are the ones who might be somewhat trustworthy (emphasis on might) at least a tiny bit since they seem to be more consistent in expressing their true political beliefs.
There is another not so small group who will sway right or left, depending on the prevailing political winds (think the winds that blow lots of cash around) and they are known as RINOs. Though they were mostly hidden in the tall grass of party politics for decades, they are now being outed, or are outing themselves, in the face of political party protests from the rank and file, the grass roots Republicans in this nation who believe the oath to the Constitution still means something. Of all the political creatures, the RINOs are the most dangerous.
The Eagles and the Vultures
In nature, natural law dominates the culture of bird behavior; in nature, eagles do not “flock together” with vultures because, well, one is an eagle and the other is a vulture, both so very different in makeup and behavior that it is not difficult to differentiate between them. So if that natural law is the basis for a premise that the same is true of politics, and you DO see politicians “flocking together”, you are then faced with a contradiction. Remember, eagles and vultures will never fly together, hunt together or agree on any true “bird issues”.
If you see a “political eagle” colluding with a “political vulture”, you might see what appears to be a confusing contradiction, but, remember, contradictions do not exist. If you encounter what appears to be one, check your premises; you will find that one of them is wrong.
While it might be interesting to determine why the eagle seems to be flocking together with the vulture, the simple truth is that though they did exist at one time, the political eagles are now nearly extinct and, for the most part, there are only political vultures, disguised as either Democrats or Republicans, whichever suit seems to fit the best on any given day, or issue. They work very hard at trying to appear to be true eagles but in reality they are simply pseudo-eagles.
And in the world of politics, it is hoped that the casual observer of the political world in the U.S. will conclude that, because a pseudo-eagle CALLS himself an eagle, and tries to appear to BE an eagle, he still quite obviously IS a pseudo-eagle and very similar in function to a vulture. Do not allow yourself to be fooled by appearances: there is actually no difference between them, they are all the same. If there were a difference, the majority side would usually prevail when working on bills that favor their side. The result would be a lot more long boring debates, even stalemates, over issues in Congress, which might be a good thing since there are already way too many laws and regulations on the books that absolutely stifle, not only the economy, but the motivation of brilliant entrepreneurs and hard-working Americans. Currently, the only debate in Congress seems to be over which part of the Uniparty will claim the “victory” after a bill has passed, a bill usually supported by both the vulture and the “pseudo-eagle”, regardless of who sponsored and pushed it.
So What IS Politics, Really?
It has at times been compared to a foul game where there are truly no winners. In times past, the game seemed to involve two or more groups, politely called “political parties” who seemed at times truly dedicated to the betterment of the people they were hired to represent. During those times, there were unspoken rules that kept the two (or more) groups within unseen boundaries of courtesy, civility and respect. However, with the constantly changing situation in the world of (dirty) politics having blurred the boundary lines, it is now somewhat easier to see that no single group of politicians actually spends any time caring a whit for the betterment of their constituents.
In most cases based on the “give and take” of political negotiations, it was easier to determine which group ended up the winners in certain political battles, and it was usually clear that at that time, politeness was still a part (albeit a very small one) of the expected behavior of mature adults. In any case, the two or more groups usually made it clear that their political enemies were members of the “other” camp (wink, wink).
How about now? It now appears that constituents are no longer accorded the respect they deserve, being the employers of both the vultures and the “pseudo-eagles” (remember all the true eagles are now extinct). That lack of respect at one time was cloaked in actions that almost made a citizen want to believe that politicians care about his thoughts and ideas, such actions being “newsletters” sent to them via email or snail mail, and town hall meetings” sent to them, designed to provide the illusion of respect for the voters. My take is that the death of the respect for constituents occurred when the politicians learned they need not fear the outcome of the elections held to determine who would go to DC and rake in all that cash.
What Politics TRULY is
Politics is, or rather illustrates the one characteristic where it is impossible to separate the eagle from the vulture: What comes out of them. While there is a visible difference between what goes in the north end of a northbound vulture or an eagle, it is almost impossible to differentiate between them while seeing what is exiting the south end of said eagle or vulture. The same is true in the foul world of politics. So……
The polite word used to define politics is: Excrement
Excrement:
Noun
- Waste material, especially fecal matter, that is expelled from the body after digestion.
- Any matter eliminated as useless from the living body; specifically, the feces.
Most normal people, seeing a pile of excrement laying on the ground, will be reviled, carefully stepping around it so as to avoid any contact with it, and usually, if it is not disturbed, it will eventually decompose and disappear, taking its bad odor with it.
And then there are those mentally challenged enough to get closer just to prove to themselves that, yes, it is excrement, and yes, it does have a terrible odor. They are the ones who risk an accidental contact with a substance that has done nothing, and produces nothing, good for humanity. One might dub them the “risk-takers” based on their innate desire to “go where no man has gone before” into the ”Realm of Excrement” (also known as POLITICS)
While, in the natural world, the pile of excrement will eventually break down, decompose and disappear, politics not only remains, retaining its awful stink, it grows and spreads exponentially, tainting everything it touches and affecting/infecting everyone foolish enough to touch it. Think of politics as that stinky pile of excrement that no one should ever touch.
So if politics is a pile of excrement, what are politicians? They are the hordes of maggots and worms living in, on and around the pile.
One of my mentors used to say, “Politics is like a pile of crap: the more you stir around in it, the worse it stinks.
Just as with a pile of excrement, where touching it allows the stink to get on you, anyone who ‘touches’ politics will also experience the awful stink, some with little to no chance to remove it from their presence.
Better to just leave it alone since God and nature have a wonderful, and permanent, way of dealing with ALL the piles of excrement……
Blessings!
Born and raised in a small textile town in North Carolina, Bud’s family moved to Michigan in the hope of finding better employment with General Motors. After graduating from high school, Bud began an apprenticeship with General Motors to become a Metal Modelmaker. Retiring after a 30 year career, which included an eight year stint as a Metrologist (Science of high precision measurement), he and his wife moved back to North Carolina to be near his elderly parents. Shortly thereafter, with both of his parents having passed, he began a new career in the bank security/ATM business, advancing from an entry level technician to one of two North Carolina customer service managers for his employer. Retiring again after 13 years, he and his wife of 51 years relocated to Tennessee where Bud began writing articles emphasizing Biblical teaching and geopolitical issues. At age 75, he and his wife relocated to South Carolina with their Miniature Schnauzer, Baxter. Bud continues to study God’s word and write articles on Christian living and geopolitical issues from the Biblical end times perspective.
