PASTOR WAYNE WRITES:
September 12, 2025
Dear Heritage Family and Friends,
In 1973, the world-renowned psychiatrist Karl Menninger wrote a book entitled Whatever Became of Sin? In it, the doctor projected that the day would come when sin would no longer be an element of the human vernacular. He speculated that rationalizations excusing individual accountability would replace the explanation of sin and wrongdoing.
Menninger predicted the term sin would be replaced with words like illness, disorder, dysfunction, syndrome, etc. The human condition would be excused as a product of biochemistry, environment, experience, and trauma. He projected that even crime would go unpunished as criminal activity would be justified and minimized due to some medical abnormality for which one could not be held responsible.
· She isn’t a drunkard (1 Cor 6:9-10) she has the disease of Alcoholism.
· He isn’t sexually immoral (1 Thess 4:3) he is a Sexual Addict.
· The child is not disobedient to parents (Rom 1:28-32) she has Oppositional Defiant Disorder with ADHD.
· He isn’t an angry man (Prov 29:22) he is reliving the patterns of his childhood abuse.
· She isn’t bitter and unforgiving (Eph 4:31-32) she has Dysthymia (depression).
· He isn’t a murderer (Ex 20:13) he has bipolar disorder and was incompetent at the time of the crime.
According to Menninger’s prognostication, the day was approaching when practically everyone would be considered sick and their conduct pardonable. No longer would there be any liability for human error, choice, or willful conduct. Everyone would be innocent, vindicated through biology, psychiatry, and humanistic reasoning. Aren’t we just about there? The good doctor was a pretty good prophet!

THE WATCHMEN’S REPORT
September 13, 2025
My Fellow Watchmen,
While I differ with Martin Luther on a few issues of theology, his words about the role of universities in shaping the hearts and minds of youth are particularly relevant today. He was exactly correct when he said this:
“I’m afraid that the universities will prove to be the gates of hell, unless they diligently labor to explain the Holy Scriptures and engrave them upon the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place their child where the Scriptures do not reign paramount. Every institution where men are not unceasingly occupied with the word of God must be corrupt.”
The fact that Charlie Kirk focused his attention on the students who attend these major colleges and universities, and the fact that he was killed by a college-age student who had been radicalized by a college-age group known as “Antifa,” which is a left-wing anti-fascist political movement that has been involved in violent protests, should tell us why this young man, who was raised in a good home, with all the support structure a child could ever need, would take it upon himself to kill the very voice that was crying out for his freedom to speak his mind.
We have to ask ourselves how our children can enter into a government-supported educational institution when they are 18 years old, and four years later become radicalized against the very country that provided the opportunity for them to receive an education. According to a recent survey, only 18% of young people between 18 and 34 love America! That’s quite different from the 15-16-year-olds who lied about their age to enlist in the Armed Forces at the start of WWII. Even taking the radicalized groups out, it is obvious that our college campuses are training our children to hate the very things that contributed (note the past tense) to the greatness of America.
Why do parents continue to pay from $120,000.00 to $250,000.00 to send their children to a college where radicalized professors are going to tear down the values they have tried to instill in their children? The basic salary for a college graduate is about the same as the starting salary for a plumber or electrician. In other words, while the novice plumber makes over $200,000.00 in four years of on-the-job training, many college students OWE that much or more when they get their bachelor’s degree.
For the last 40 years, I’ve warned my readers about the civil unrest now upon us. The very fabric of our society is being ripped to shreds by those on the “liberal-left.” As a National Guardsmen, I was called to active duty twice during the racial riots of the 70’s. However, I’ve never seen our nation this divided in my lifetime.
On Wednesday afternoon, after Charlie Kirk was shot, the term “civil war” began appearing on social media – 129,000 times just on the social platform X. On Thursday, it had grown to over 210,000 times. This is not a distant threat, but a present reality that demands our attention and action.
Pray for peace! But also, prepare for more unrest. These are not just words, but a call to action. We must be spiritually and practically ready for the challenges ahead.
