PASTOR WAYNE WRITES:
May 24, 2024
Dear Heritage Family,
Years ago, Oswald Chambers wrote: “Satan’s great aim is to cause us to be devoted to the death to a cause; any enterprise, any type of movement or ministry, other than to the Person of Jesus Christ.” Since Satan realized he couldn’t destroy the church, he did the next best thing – he produced a counterfeit Christianity! Whereas the goal of every authentic Christian is self-discipline, self-denial, and even self-detriment, if necessary to authenticate our witness, the goal of the counterfeit church is self-acceptance, self-achievement, and self-enrichment – in effect, using the name of God to get the same things Satan promised those who worship him.
Satan also raised up a new crop of counterfeit preachers who are willing to say whatever the congregation wants to hear as long as they tickle his ears with praise and line his wallet with cash, for they are but hirelings and not true God-called shepherds. Sadly, the pulpits are filled with many of them today.
The title of this sermon series is “How Should We Then Live?” Our purpose is to declare what the Scriptures define as an “Authentic Christian” for there are many false professors among the true confessors, and they are giving Christianity a bad name.
The Sunday morning sermon is titled: “How Should We Then Live?” The Assurance of our Salvation.” # 1

WOKE WON’T WORK – DEI IS ABOUT TO DIE
Wayne J. Edwards
At the outset, let me make it clear that I believe every possible advantage should be given to those who are disadvantaged in any way and by any level of physical or mental limitation, whether by congenital disability, accident, and certainly those who were injured in the defense of our cities, states, and nation.
· A grocery store owner “made” a job for a boy with Down syndrome. Not only did he advance in his employment, he was consistently recognized as the most helpful employee. When his parents died, while he lived with his relatives, he was proud to be able to provide for himself financially.
· A church member was involved in an accident that left him physically limited and socially awkward. However, he asked the church if he could mow the lawns and help with the landscaping. After a few weeks, he was placed in charge of the work. The church also recognized him as their number one “soul-winner” because of his ability to tell others about the love of Jesus.
I could share other examples, but these two have made the point. That’s why I weep when I see what “wokeism” has done to the ethical standards of our society; to corporations, businesses, and retail stores to reduce the quality of customer service, to the medical community to reduce the quality of healthcare, and to the postal service and our armed forces to reduce the level of their dependability and our level of confidence.
DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) focuses on creating an inclusive environment that values diversity and ensures equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their background. (e.g., race, gender, sexuality). In other words, students are urged to enroll in a college far above their SAT scores simply because of their race, gender, or “chosen” lifestyle. Employers are forced to hire employees not based on their ability to do the work, but because they fit the profile of those considered underprivileged. What does that say to those students who strived to achieve academic excellence so they could attend Ivy League schools and to those employees who want to work hard to make their companies successful? Today, the rankings of the prominent colleges and universities are falling, as is the stock value of many corporations and businesses. The mail is running about a month behind, and God help us if our “woke” military is called to defend our country.
Years ago, my dear friend and fellow Pastor Adrian Rogers wrote: “You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another must work for without receiving. The government cannot give anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. Half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”
I salute those Governors, University Trustees, Corporation Presidents, and others who have recognized the futility of this latest effort of Marxist-socialist activism! We must teach our children to strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives, including their commitment to an ethical moral code that “fits” in with society, rather than rebelling against it. The only victims of life’s circumstances are those who choose to remain as such, and according to the Scriptures, such slothfulness should not be rewarded.
