Dear Heritage Family and Friends,
A recent survey was conducted of a large group of people, ages 18-94, who claimed to be “born-again” believers. The purpose of this survey was to determine the level of their spiritual maturity. The questionnaire used the physical growth stages from a newborn to a grandparent to illustrate the spiritual growth from a new Christian who is dependent upon others for their spiritual development to a grandparent who is able to stand firm in what he believes and why he believes it and is living it out in his daily life as a witness to others.
Nearly 50% of those who surveyed had not progressed past the “Infant” stage of Spiritual Growth, and 88% had not graduated from the “Toddler” stage. Only 2% of those surveyed had reached the most mature stage of a spiritual grandparent to other believers, and here is why: 67% said they did not see disciple-making as the highest priority in their lives.
Beloved, the time is now. When the persecution of Christians in America begins in earnest, 98% of those who claim to be true believers will not have the spiritual maturity to stand firm in their faith. This is not a distant threat, but a reality that we must prepare for today.
This Sunday, we will conclude our study of Peter’s first epistle. The title of this sermon is: “A Living Hope – Preparing for Persecution – “Peter’s Passion for Spiritual Maturity.”

My Fellow Watchmen,
This week, the same person who, in 2016, referred to those who supported Donald Trump for President, as a “basket of deplorables – racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic”, used the term “Nazis” to describe that same group of people. So, by her definition:
- If I worship God, love my family, and support my country – i.e., if I hold the belief that God blessed this nation to be a beacon of hope for other nations.
- If I believe the Bible is the final authority on every moral issue – i.e., that the collective opinions of the people do not negate the truth of God’s Word.
- If I believe in the sanctity of marriage – i.e., that union of a man and a woman.
- If I believe in the sanctity of life – the protection of the born and the unborn, and the rejection of practices such as abortion and euthanasia that threaten this sanctity.
- If I believe in the sanctity of two genders – male and female, and that grade-school children should not be allowed to make life-long physical and medical decisions on a temporary whim.
- If I believe parents have the God-given authority and responsibility of raising their children without government intervention or restriction.
- If I uphold the belief that every individual should have the freedom to pursue their life goals and reach their God-given potential, within the boundaries of the law, but without the overreach of government interference.
If that is Mrs. Hillary Clinton’s definition of a Nazi, I’m guilty!
