Dear Heritage Family,
Every born-again believer is engaged in a cosmic spiritual war. This war began in the Garden of Eden when Satan rebelled against God’s authority and led Adam and Eve to do the same. It will not end until Jesus casts Satan into the bottomless pit of hell, where he and his fellow rebels will live forever.
The Bible is a narrative of this cosmic struggle between God and Satan, good and evil, light and darkness, righteousness and sin, the kingdom of God, and the kingdoms of this world. This spiritual warfare is manifested today in the battle for control of the world, in the desire for positions of power in our nation, in the growing apostasy of our churches, in the breakup of our marriages and families, and in the moral depravity of individual lives. We will explain this further in our introductory sermon for this new series on Spiritual Warfare. Sunday’s sermon is entitled, “Know Your Enemy.”

My Fellow Watchmen,
God put two wonderful entities in the world to hold back the darkness: The family and the church.
· We are where we are in our society today because of the breakdown of the family.
o First, because today’s fathers will not put away their childish toys and grow up to be the spiritual leaders their family so desperately needs.
o Second, because today’s mothers think they are helping to provide for their family by working outside the home and outsourcing the most significant responsibility God gave to them – to partner with Him in raising their children in the “NURTURE” and admonition of the Lord!
o Sadly, today’s parents won’t see the error of their ways until their teenagers no longer respect their authority.
· We are where we are in our society today because of the silence of the church.
o “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” —Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
o God established His Church to serve as the Pillar and Ground of Truth, and He called His pastors to serve as His under-shepherds, to guide His sheep to the green pastures and to guard them from harm. However, out of the 364,000 churches in America, 264,000 of them are “liberal,” i.e., the Bible is not their final source of authority on moral issues.
o In Isaiah 56:9, God used the voice of His prophet to declare, “His watchmen are blind, they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. Yes, they are greedy dogs which never have enough.”
o Evidently, these spiritual weaklings would rather offend a Holy God than to risk offending their carnal congregations. That will not end well for them!
As I’ve said so many times, the only explanation for the rise in darkness over the last century is in the absence of light – the breakdown of the family, and the silent pulpits. Of course, it is easier to curse the darkness than to let our little lights shine!
