PASTOR WAYNE’S NEWS CLIPS:
My Fellow Watchmen,
From Pastor Wayne:
Twenty-two years ago, Rev. Jerry Falwell and CBN President Pat Robertson said God allowed the terrorists to succeed in their mission to destroy the Twin Towers in New York “because the United States had become a nation of abortion, homosexuality, secular schools and courts, and the American Civil Liberties Union.” Of course, the Bush administration resoundingly refuted their remarks as “inappropriate,” and most of the other cultural pontificators scoffed at the idea that the barbaric attack on America had any moral (evil vs. good) quotient whatsoever. However, I think it would benefit us to look at what has happened in America since that infamous day?
As I recall, churches were filled with people on their knees in prayer for several weeks. In the church I was serving at that time, we had to move the Wednesday night prayer meeting into the main sanctuary to hold the crowd. However, the prayers of repentance soon turned into cries of anger against the terrorists, and anger soon turned to hatred, and hatred soon to revenge, which meant we had not been humbled at all by the the level of human suffering.
According to the latest data, America is decidedly less religious than in 2001.
· In 1950, the percentage of Americans who said they have no religion was close to “0”!! In 2001, it was 8%! Today, that figure is 21%.
· In 1996, 27% supported the idea of legalized same-sex marriage. Today, that figure is 71%.
· In 2000, 8%, per Gallup, said abortion should be legal in the third trimester of pregnancy. Today, that percentage has almost tripled to 22%.
The scriptures are clear: when sin and evil become socially accepted (Isa. 5: 20) and endorsed by the government, the floodgates of evil swing wide open, placing the nation’s citizens in harm’s way. And when God lifts His hand of protection from that nation, God’s hand of discipline is not far away, for “Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain (Psalms 127: 1 NASB).”
What does that discipline look like? Ineffective military campaigns, inadequate administration of justice, corruption, evil leadership, civil unrest, violence, crime, injustice, discrimination, economic depression, and natural disasters are among the many consequences a nation under divine discipline can expect to experience. Doesn’t that describe America today?
Falwell and Robertson were right – America was headed in the wrong direction, and we still are! Had God’s people made the corrections according to biblical standards 22 years ago, I think we would be a much stronger nation today. When will we learn?
Thank you for forwarding these articles to those you think might be interested! PW
