Dear Heritage Family,
The Apostle Paul said, while the whole church age would be plagued with doctrinal and theological division, near the end of the church age, such activity would increase in its intensity, and we can see that today through the efforts of Progressive Christianity.
Sadly, the church in the West has been lulled to sleep with songs of high praise, amateur theatrical performances to garner man’s applause, and short sermons of pop psychology laced with pious platitudes and twisted scriptures. To use Shakespeare’s analogy, “they strut and fret upon the stage as idiots full of sound and fury, signifying nothing,” and we wonder why our youth and children have no hunger for the things of God.
We will explain this further in our next sermon, “This I Believe: The Essential Doctrines of the Christian Faith,” based on the Epistle of 2 Timothy 3:1-17.
While the sermon study guide is attached, we encourage you to view the sermon on our INTERACTIVE WEBSITE: www.theheritagechurch.org

Fellow Watchmen,
As Christians living in today’s anti-Christian environment, the main thing we need to be concerned about is “deception,” not only from secular sources such as the government and the media but primarily from those in the pulpits who are “wolves in sheep’s clothing.”
In Matthew 24:3-5, Jesus told His disciples, “Take heed that no man deceives you, for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ, and shall deceive you.” I find it interesting that Jesus did not mention any secular leaders, but rather those who would come “in His Name,” and that would include those who pretended to be pastors, evangelists, and other Christian leaders but who were Satan’s voice to deceive their hearers with a false concept of Christ.
Beloved, beware of those who verbally claim to be “anointed” or “chosen” of God, for if we look at the Greek word from which the word “Christ” originated, we find the terms “anointed” and “chosen.” Certainly, those whom God chooses to use in a mighty way are anointed (empowered and enabled) by the Holy Spirit to carry out their assignment, but Satan also uses people to counterfeit the true gifts of God and the true anointing of God; they are false prophets operating under a false anointing, and we must have the spirit of discernment so as not to be deceived.
In Matthew 7:15-23, Jesus said, “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns or figs of thistles? Even so, every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit; neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire.” In other words, we should never judge spiritual leaders by their “gifts,” i.e., their ability to speak or to draw great crowds, but rather by their “fruits,” i.e., is it real fruit, lasting fruit, and multiplying fruit?
Many Christians are very concerned about the evil world in which we live, and the wickedness of those in leadership positions. However, they don’t seem to have that same concern for those in positions of spiritual leadership, and therefore, they are deceived. Many will sit in the same pew of the same churches they have sat in every Sunday for many years and never raise a question about what they are hearing or, in today’s case, what they are not hearing. Beware, Jesus said, for that meek and mild-mannered pastor who fails to tell you the truth about what is happening in the world today to fulfill biblical prophecy today may turn out to be a ravening wolf.
