DANIEL 11:15
So, The King of The North [Antiochus III (223 – 187 B.C.E.) ] shall:
- Come, and
- Cast up a mount [siege mound], and
- Take the most fenced cities [a fortified city].
And The Arms [Forces] of The South [The Ptolemaic Forces under the Aetolian commander, Scopas,] shall not withstand [stand], neither His Chosen People [The elite soldiers chosen by Scopas]:
Neither shall there be any strength to withstand.
(Daniel 11:15)
In his conquest of Coele-Syria, Antiochus III took the cities of:
- Damascus
- Jerusalem
- Gaza
- The Port of Sidon
The gates of these cities and others could not stand against Antiochus III. The great Seleucid king was invincible. As he approached the city of Jerusalem, “the Jews went over to Him, and received Him into The City of Jerusalem, and gave Him plentiful provision to all His army, and to His elephants, and readily assisted Him when He besieged The Garrison which was in The Citadel of Jerusalem”. (Josephus, ‘Antiquities’ Book 12 Chapter 3:3).
Historically, until the twentieth century and the invention of the aeroplane, larger cities were walled. Siege warfare involved:
- The Encircling of the city by the attacking army so that no citizens could escape
- The Undermining of the walls so that they could be breached
- The Starvation of the citizens of the city.
There is an exceeding more powerful monarch than Antiochus III, the great Seleucid king. JESUS OF NAZARETH is waging war against a seemingly impregnable city.
He is waging a war against The City of Sin and Death – The City of Hades. JESUS stated that ‘THE GATES OF HADES [HELL] WOULD NOT PREVAIL AGAINST HIS KINGDOM – THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN’ (Matthew 16:18b).
When JESUS of Nazareth lived a perfect life of Obedience and offered himself as a sacrifice to propitiate The Wrath of GOD against Disobedience, The Kingdom of Satan was conquered. And this sacrifice was made for The World:
The Resurrection of JESUS was the sign of THE LORD GOD’S Acceptance of This Perfect Offering by ‘THE KING KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS’ (Revelation 19:16b).
‘FOR THOU WILT NOT LEAVE MY SOUL IN HELL[HADES],
NEITHER WILT THOU SUFFER THINE HOLY ONE TO SEE CORRUPTION’ (PSALM 16:10 AND ACTS 2:27)
