Amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and China over a trade war, Covid-19, and threats of Chinese espionage and political turmoil in Hong Kong, critics worry that China uses their Confucius Institutes to promote Chinese Communist Party propaganda on American college campuses. They are right to worry!

The University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana is not the only cell.  Party cells have appeared in California, Ohio, New York, Connecticut, North Dakota, and West Virginia. The cells appear to be part of a strategy, now expanded under Chinese President Xi Jinping, to extend direct party control globally and to insulate students and scholars abroad from the influence of “harmful ideology,” (i.e. America’s constitutional freedoms) sometimes by asking members to report on each other’s behaviors and beliefs.

Two years ago, in the National Defense Authorization Act, Congress voted to strip colleges and universities of certain Pentagon grants unless they closed their Confucius Institutes which promote Chinese cells. Yet they are still flourishing on American campuses. Why?  Because American universities have been looking to global sources to fill seats and find cash in the face of government cuts.

  1. Dear Chugley. We used to say; ” what happens in the USA, happens here 10 years later”. But this is wrong. The Confucius Institutes are here and have been for years. Why we allow this is beyond this monkey. Wake up Oz. We in the western world, want things to happen NOW. But our northern neighbours are much more patient, they work slowly by stealth. We are slow learners.

  2. The CCP knew back in the 1990s that they did not have the economic power to defeat USA.

    So China developed a think tank to come up with a plan for the future. This was back in the 1990s.

    The plan is now unfolding globally, develop military bases on the China East Coast. Take over Taiwan. Make vassal states of the South East Asia countries. And, Australia.

    The 2005 CCP strategy paper planned germ warfare with USA.
    No need to fire a gun, just medically defeat the country and culture.

    Remember that God is in control in these evil days, as He was in the days of Job.

    In reflecting on these words it is apparent that a huge machine exists behind it’s advancement. The march of the overweight educational institutions and their agenda, the apathy of ‘woke’ commercial organisations on political correctness and the leftist political attack on freedom of choice and speech has ensured that the battle will be long and hard.
    I fear there are too many ideological stupids out there for an average bloke to contend with. May the “quiet” become the “angry” – and quickly.

  4. The article has relevance to my newly acquired badge of honour! In the grip of social media and a China derived medical pandemic in these dastardly times, one is to hopefully be forgiven a little direct reflection by those who seek to influence and control. Not so! I was declared persona non grata by faecesbook for a gruff utterance on a China related article concerning the wilful decimation of animals. Chugley – even you are not safe mate!
