Dear Heritage Family,
Generally speaking, the term “Lord” is used to identify those with authority, control, or power over others. A servant recognizes their position of submission by referring to those they serve as “my Lord!” In Jesus’ day, when the leper called Jesus, “Lord” he was showing Him respect as a healer and a teacher.
However, after Jesus’ resurrection, the title “Lord” became much more than a title of honor or respect. Saying, “Jesus is Lord,” became a way of declaring Jesus’ deity, i.e., the “Lordship of Christ.” It began with Thomas’ exclamation when Jesus appeared to the disciples after His resurrection: “Thomas said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’” (John 20:28).
From then on, the apostles’ message was that Jesus is Lord, meaning “Jesus is God.” Peter’s sermon on the Day of Pentecost contained that theme: “Let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah” (Acts 2:36). In Romans 10:9-10, the Apostle Paul linked one’s eternal salvation with their public confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord!
We will explain this further in our Sunday, July 30th sermon, “Certain and Sure: The Essential Elements of a Confession of Faith.”

PASTOR WAYNE’S NEWS CLIPS:
August 5, 2023
Habakkuk was one of the first “watchmen on the wall.” He prophesied during the reign of King Jehoiakim around the year 607 B.C. Habakkuk had lived through a period of national revival followed by a period of spiritual decline, and He knew God would soon release His judgment upon His people again.
Habakkuk cried out unto God, “How long shall I cry, and You will not hear? Plundering and violence are before me; strife, and contention arises. The law is powerless, and justice never goes forth, for the wicked surround the righteous, and therefore, perverse judgment proceeds.” Habakkuk saw trouble and sin everywhere, from personal relationships to the courts of law, and it distressed him so much that he asked God why was He withholding His judgment?
America needs to hear Gods’ answer in Habakkuk 1:5-6. “Look among the nations and watch. Be utterly astounded, for I will work a miracle in your days which you would not believe, though it were told to you, for indeed I am raising up the Chaldeans, a bitter and hasty nation which marches through the breadth of the earth to possess dwelling places that are not theirs.”
When the Babylonians eventually came against Judah, God allowed them to conquer Judah; a victory they could have never achieved apart from God’s sovereign will, and God’s people were slaves to the Babylonian people for 70 years.
Wake up, America! Repent, Church! “Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.” (Isaiah 55:7)
