Chugley Chimp

Am I my keeper’s brother? Hmmm… Popular belief would have it that I am related to you through a “common” ancestor of the human race. Logically, this means that if you trace your ancestry back far enough you will find that you have a chimp embedded somewhere in there! Imagine that! It’s entirely possible that the uncle your mother talked about might be a ‘monkeys uncle’ after all! It’s pretty hard to grasp that highly educated ‘humans’ would believe such stuff isn’t it? However just ask the all wise ‘Mr Google’ (funny name that – cricketers bowl googlies don’t they? Is this trying to tell us something?) and you will discover this bold statement… “Humans, chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans and their extinct ancestors form a family of organisms known as the ‘Hominidae’. Researchers generally agree that among the living animals in this group, humans are most closely related to chimpanzees. Judging from comparisons of anatomy and genetics.” Seems a bid of a “googly” of an announcement to me! Now, I am here in my luxury zoo cage to tell you that I am one hundred percent chimpanzee and do not want to be anything else, thank you. Just look at the mess you lot are making of the world! Having said that however, I am inclined to think that I did inherit a jumping gene that somehow allowed me to become a ‘writing thinking’ chimpanzee. Barbara McClintock found the jumping gene… ‘”Transposable elements (TE’s), also known as ‘jumping genes’ or transposons, are sequences of DNA that move (or jump) from one location in the genome to another. Maize geneticist Barbara McClintock discovered TE’s in the 1940’s and, for decades thereafter, most scientists dismissed transposons as useless or ‘junk’ DNA”. – Obviously they overlooked the Chimp variety! I began writing some years ago but became discouraged back in the ‘inky only’ days, too slow for me. Then someone chucked an obsolete computer into my cage and – voila – I discovered the internet and began writing again. Honestly, there is a cast of millions out there, I am SO excited! I’ve been looking back at some of my old scribblings from 2001 – seems almost like the dark ages now doesn’t it? The internet, social media and electronic communication in general has proliferated beyond anybody’s imagination. There has been an explosion of knowledge – inversely proportional to wisdom, it seems to be agreed by thinking people. This is why these days Chimps and Humans have to really work at remaining wise “monkeys” and NOT let ourselves become befuddled by pseudo science, fake news and ill-informed ignoramuses!
